Photosynthesis Lab
Plant Photosynthesis Lab: Purpose: How does the intensity and wavelength of light affect the photosynthesis of different plants?
Materials:
Procedure:
Hypothesis:
I predict that when we put the red cellophane on the leaf then it will look red or brown. However, it wont affect the starch level. When the black paper is placed over the plant then the starch level will decrease drastically.
Materials:
- 2 Plants
- red cellophane
- black paper
- test tubes
- alcohol
- iodine
- tape
- water
Procedure:
- Make a hypothesis about how the different conditions will affect the photosynthesis in the plants leaves and give reasons
- Cut off experimental and control leaves
- Extract chlorophyll with hot alcohol
- Rinse the leaves out with water
- Cover with iodine
- After 1 minute remove the iodine
- Place the leaves on the paper towel to dry off extra iodine
- Record data in table

Data Analysis:
The results our group got were that the Calendula leaves produce more starch when they are under black and red paper. The Coleus produces slightly more starch in the red areas of the leaf than the rest of it. Our data was very obscure and didn't seem to be right or agree with the classes discussion at the end.
Reflection:
This lab was very fun because of the easy going way that everything flowed. I felt like i could have done more because everyone else was moving around with their own part of the lab and required no help. Otherwise this lab helped me further understand the properties of photosynthesis.
